Mahindra Scorpio Vs Tata Safari Storme (Design and Exterior)

The Mahindra Scorpio stands out with its all new exterior and there is nothing plain and understated about it. The looks of the car are very striking and may not be to everyone’s taste. The Safari on the other hand looks more understated in comparison, it gets a new body cladding, the rear tyre has been removed and the nose gets a long chrome strip bezel. The new grill makes the car look less masculine than it previously was. Safari’s exterior has undergone many changes since its inception. However, the changes have been very cosmetic and it looks aged due to its overall very same body structure. You would really need to look carefully to find any changes between the new and old Safari.

Despite the fact that the Scorpio has the same body structure like its predecessor, it has come a long way in terms of overall exterior design and looks more refreshed due to the major modifications to its headlights, grille, bumper and taillight. Safari maintains the same overall body structure and looks aged due to the reason that the changes made to the exterior are very subtle.

Mahindra Scorpio Vs Tata Safari Storme (Interior and Features)

The Tata Safari Storme has very roomy cabin. The dashboard is low, the driver seat is placed high, the car with its large windows gives the driver a good all round visibility. The quality of the plastics used is top notch and are very well designed. Ìn terms of equipment though it lags too far behind the Scorpio. Where the Safari gets a single din aftermarket audio system, the Scorpio gets the custom touch screen from the XUV with provides facilities like the satellite navigation, tyre pressure monitor and trip meter etc.

The quality of the plastics used in Scorpio is top notch and comes in beige and black colour. The Safari gets a wood finish on its interiors and the design is flush unlike the Scorpio which has a boxy feel.  The front passengers do not get much storage space in Scorpio.

Mahindra Scorpio Vs Tata Safari Storme (Engine and Gearbox)

Both the cars get a 2.2 litre four cylinder diesel engine. The power and torque figures of the Tata Safari’s VariCOR engine are better than the Scorpio on paper. The Tata Safari offer 140 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 320 Nm of torque at 1700 RPM. The Scorpio’s engine offers 122 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 290 Nm of torque at 1800 RPM.

Mahindra Scorpio Vs Tata Safari Storme (Safety features and Mileage)

The cars offer high-end and basic safety features like Anti-Lock Braking system, child safety locks, central locking, two airbags, engine immobilizer etc. In addition, the cars also offer passive safety features like low fuel warning lamp, fasten seat belt warning, door ajar warning etc. The Safari as well as Scorpio offer Anti-lock braking system coupled with EBD.

The Mahindra Scorpio offers slightly better mileage at 15.4kmpl than the Tata Safari Storme which offers 13kmpl; this is perhaps due to the slightly low kerb weight of the Scorpio.

Verdict

Mahindra has done a pretty decent job with the latest Scorpio. It’s no nonsense SUV that has improved in almost every department. In the interiors and handling department it significantly stands out in comparison to its predecessor. In terms of features too, the car offers an overall better package in comparison to the Tata Safari Storme.

The Safari has its own fan following and is an accomplished SUV in almost every respect. However, the equipment level of the car is not great when compared to Scorpio. Even the looks of the car does not work very well and the car looks somewhat old standing alongside Scorpio.
