Polarity, maker of electric bikes, will unveil six models this month. It has been working on these concepts since 2017. The company claims that they are the first of their kind. This stems from the fact that they are road-legal, have pedal assistance, and are capable of 100kph in some cases as well.
The model range is divided into ‘Sport’ and ‘Executive’ groups. The company has designated the Sport models ‘S1K’, ‘S2K’, and ‘S3K’. The Executive range is designated ‘E1K’, ‘E2K’, and ‘E3K’. All of them will have lithium-ion batteries and 1-3kW electric hub motors. To combat range anxiety, there is pedal assistance as well, although even without pedaling the range is 80km. In the case of the top-spec S3K and E3K, the company claims a top speed of 100kph, which is unique for this format of the electric bike. The bikes also have a custom stand that turns them into exercycles in the customer’s house.
A set of teaser images has been released by the company. The styling of the Polarity range follows the electric bike format, but there are twists to it as well – there is only a single seat. The swingarm is attached to the chassis by a really long exposed mono-shock at the rear, and the front has telescopic front forks. An interesting feature is a remote reservoir for the rear mono-shock – a feature usually reserved for adjustable suspension. The lithium-ion battery pack is housed in the frame, and there are some other very interesting design elements like the light guide-like elements in the headlamps. The turn indicators look like they’re off KTM’s Duke range. The brakes are hydraulic disc brakes for the front, and there appears to be a digital display on one or two of the models.

The Polarity range currently does not have any direct competition in the market, since they fill a gap between the electric bikes that are essentially bicycles-with-electric-motors, and all-out electric bikes. It remains to be seen how much of the concepts get carried over to production, and at what price. They will be available for pre-booking for Rs 1001 on their website, after the unveiling. The pre-booking amount is a refundable one.
