  • Skoda Kamiq gets a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating.

  • Gets good ratings for adult and child occupant safety.

  • It also gets good ratings for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

  • Unsure if the same level of features like autonomous braking will make it India-spec model.

The Skoda Kamiq, its upcoming small SUV, has garnered a five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash safety rating. The rating is awarded out of five stars.

Skoda Kamiq came out trumps with a 5-star rating with the following sub-scores.

  1. Adult protection – 96%

  2. Child occupant protection – 85%

  3. Pedestrian and cyclists safety – 80%

  4. Driver-assist functions – 76%

The figures were acquired on the basis of the Skoda Scala, which is structurally identical to the Kamiq, and with a few additional tests because of the different ride heights.

The amount of safety equipment is also identical to that of the Scala that was tested earlier this year – the equipment includes a front airbag, a knee airbag, side head airbag (with an optional addition for the passenger), side chest airbag, ISOFIX child seat anchors with an airbag deactivator for the front passenger seat, seat belt pre-tensioner and load limiter for all five belts, autonomous braking for cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles in both city and highway conditions, speed assistance, and a lane assist system.

The Skoda Kamiq that will launch in India will be based on the MQB A0 platform developed for developing markets, and we aren’t certain that the autonomous driver assistance systems present in the European Kamiq will make it to the India-spec car. A clearer, more relevant picture will be available about the Kamiq’s safety once the India-spec car is tested by Global NCAP, whose tests aren’t as stringent as Euro NCAP’s.
