India-bound Yamaha YZF R3 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition Unveiled

  • The 2020 YZF-R3 will launch next year in India.

  • The MotoGP Edition has been revealed for the US Market.

  • Has the same livery as the Monster Energy MotoGP M1s.

  • Follows up on the popularity of other MotoGP editions like the YZF R15 MotoGP Edition in India.

Yamaha has revealed the Monster Energy MotoGP Edition for their YZF R3 sportbike a while ago, and it has gone on sale in the US market. Just like the YZF R15 MotoGP Edition sold in India, it follows the same paint scheme and graphics as the Monster Energy Yamaha YZF M1s ridden by Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales in the MotoGP Championship. It priced at a premium of Rs 21,500 over the regular R3 in the US market.

This special edition R3 will officially be called the Yamaha YZF R3 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition. It will use the same black and blue base color as the MotoGP bikes, with the sponsor logos as graphics. It will remain mechanically unchanged and will retain the 321cc parallel-twin engine that generates 41bhp. This engine is liquid-cooled and has four valves per cylinder. The six-speed gearbox will have a slipper clutch, and the brakes will have dual-channel ABS. The chassis will also remain the same, with the asymmetric rear swingarm. However, it is still unclear if the lovely gold-colored upside-down front forks will make it to the India-bound 2020 Yamaha YZF R3. The current Indian market R3 uses conventional front forks to save costs.

The 2020 Yamaha YZF R3 is expected to launch sometime early next year, in time for the BS Vl norms, when an increase in cost can be more easily communicated to the consumer. Hopefully, the sticker price will get more attractive to the target audience, because the small Yamaha sportbike is well worth the consideration.

The Yamaha YZF R3 competes with the likes of other small-capacity faired sportbikes like the KTM RC390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, TVS Apache RR310, and Kawasaki Ninja 400.
