  • The next-gen Honda City is expecting a launch in India in 2020.

  • People have spotted the next-gen Honda City on the roads before its scheduled launch.

The new Honda City will get a world premiere in Thailand in a couple of months. However, testing of the vehicle is in force in India. People have spotted the fifth-gen Honda City on the roads.

Honda City has been around since 2014. The fifth-gen Honda City, scheduled to replace the existing one, will make its Indian debut in 2020. However, the testing on Indian roads is already on. People have spied the heavily covered vehicle on Indian roads. Photographs of the testing mule reveal a similar silhouette.

The fifth-gen Honda City could be longer and broader than the existing vehicle, very much like what the Honda Accord sedan is. One expects the new car to get wraparound LED headlights, a wide grille with thick chrome strips, and the customary Honda badge in the centre. The tail-end of the vehicle gets LED lights and a tapering design.

2020 Honda City Spied Testing in India

The engine gets a revamp to comply with the BSVI norms. However, it is likely to carry the same diesel-CVT combination as it is in the Honda Amaze. The good news is that the petrol variant gets a hybrid powertrain. A compact hybrid model of the Honda Jazz and Honda City is being developed.

Honda already sports the standard-size version of the new hybrid system, known as Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD, in models like Honda CR-V and Honda Civic Hybrid, sold abroad. The Honda Accord in India has this system, as well.

The new Honda City could witness an Indian launch in 2020. Some of its competitors include the Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the Volkswagen Vento.
