Vitara Brezza & S-Cross to get 1.5L Petrol Motor.
It will also get the Suzuki’s SHVS dual-battery mild-hybrid system.
Maruti could also upgrade the existing 1.5L DDiS225 diesel engine to BS-VI compliance.
Maruti Suzuki has been working on Vitara Brezza Facelift for some time now, while it is expected to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Speculations are also rife regarding the introduction of a petrol engine and it is being learned that the work is in the final stages. The company could equip the sub-compact SUV with the all-new 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine which debuted with the New-gen Ertiga and Ciaz facelift. Maruti is expected to offer the exact same setup with the S-Cross as it has decided to discontinue the diesel variants before April 2020.

Sources privy to the development have revealed that the 1.5L petrol engine will be offered with BS 6 certification along with the Suzuki’s SHVS dual-battery mild-hybrid system. It will have a maximum power output of 103.5bhp and peak torque performance of 138Nm, as with Ciaz and Ertiga. The Smart Hybrid System will consist of an integrated starter generator and dual-battery setup, which will help in making it more fuel-efficient. However, this engine wouldn’t help the Vitara Brezza with the excise duty benefits due to being over 1200cc. The Fiat-sourced 1.3L diesel engine will be phased out and if demand persists, it may upgrade the existing 1.5L DDiS225 engine to BS-VI compliance.
Maruti Suzuki, like every other manufacturer, is struggling for sales in the Indian market. Hence, it has high hopes from the petrol variants of Vitara Brezza as the SUV has been a best-seller in its segment ever since its launch. The petrol variants could be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as optional. The prices could start from Rs 6.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
