BMW India has launched the high-performance M5 Competition at a sticker price of Rs 1.55 Crores (Ex. Showroom, India) in the country. Replacing the standard M5 sedan, which is the sportier avatar of 5-Series, it will be sold as CBU while being more powerful and expensive (around Rs 12 Lakhs) than its predecessor.
It will be available across all the company authorized dealerships across the country from today.
Speaking of the exterior styling, BMW M5 Competition comes with an M Package with several sportier elements which include gloss-black accents on the kidney grille, ORVMs, side air vents, rear diffuser, and spoiler. In addition, M-specific twin exhaust pipes and M5 Competition badge also come as standard with this package.
The cabin also gets M elements such as multi-function sport seats, seat belts, leather multi-function steering wheel, red start/stop button, and pedals. The premium features also include wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay support, a 600W 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.
Mechanically, BMW M5 Competition is powered by a V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that develops top power of 625bhp (25bhp higher than the standard M5) and peak torque of 750Nm. The engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission while power is transmitted to all the four wheels via the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The aforementioned system boasts of multiple modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD, i.e. it can make the sedan a rear-wheel-drive from an all-wheel-drive. It does a 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.3 seconds which 0.1 seconds quicker than the regular M5. BMW M5 Competition will directly rival the Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC+ in the Indian market.
