Volkswagen Group India Merges To Make Skoda Auto Volkswagen India

The formalities have been completed for the merger of VWIPL, NSC, and SAIPL into a consolidated entity, SAVWIPL. Having its headquarters in Pune, the new company will have two production facilities in Aurangabad and Pune.

The company proposes to have regional offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, and other significant locations in India. Mr. Gurpratap Boparai will be the new Managing Director of SAVWIPL.

This merger is a crucial milestone in India 2.0 Project with the company using its existing synergies efficiently in the automobile market.

Mr. Bernhard Maier, CEO of Skoda Auto welcomed the merger by stating that it is one of the essential pre-requisites for achieving the long-term goal of improving the market share of the two companies by 2025. The company plans to present a specific outlook for the India 2.0 Project at the Delhi Auto Expo.

The new MD of SAVWIPL, Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, adds that the merger provides an ideal combination of technology and management expertise, thereby helping to strengthen the presence in India.

With this merger, the renowned car brands like Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini come under a single umbrella. The brands will retail their distinct identity while availing the benefits of an extended dealership network spread throughout India.

In July 2018, Volkswagen Group had already announced an investment of one billion Euros for the India 2.0 Project. They introduced a new technology center in Pune for developing vehicles on the localized MQB-AD-IN subcompact platform. SAVWIPL will be launching a mid-size SUV by presenting the studies at the New Delhi Auto Expo in February 2020.
