  • Audi Q7 currently sells in both petrol and diesel.

  • Diesel is the overwhelming favorite.

  • It will be available with only petrol power from April 2020 onward.

  • Audi isn’t saying no completely to a diesel version later.

Audi India has announced that it will remove diesel from its lineup completely, come April 2020 and the upcoming BS Vl emission norms. One of the models that will follow this rule is the upcoming Audi Q7.

The 2020 Audi Q7 Facelift was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will launch in India sometime next year. It gets diesel options for Europe, but it will be launched in petrol only to start with, for the Indian market. The new Q7 with petrol power has a 48V mild-hybrid system that helps it conserve fuel, which means fewer emissions as well.

Audi is unsure if customers in India will be willing to pay the significant difference that a BS Vl diesel engine would cost over petrol, so they’re going to start the new financial year with only a petrol Q7. This doesn’t mean that the doors are firmly shut on a diesel Q7; if there is enough demand, we might see one launched later after all.

However, in the short term, it is petrol only, like the rest of the portfolio from Audi for India, from April onward.

The upcoming Audi Q7 will compete with the Mercedes Benz GLE, Volvo XC90, BMW X5, and the Porsche Macan in the Indian market.
