  • The SUV market is gaining ground today with players like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, and Kia Motors introducing new models.

  • Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are in a JV operation to introduce a B-SUV rival to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

  • The new B-SUV model pricing will be in the range of Rs 10 to 14 lakhs.

Maruti Suzuki has introduced a couple of new models this year, such as the XL6 and S-Presso to overcome the slowdown in the auto industry. These models had a launch before the festive season in 2019.

The SUV market is doing better comparatively with the introduction of models like Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, and so on. Maruti Suzuki is also in the process of planning a B-SUV along with the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

Toyota has entered into a JV with Maruti Suzuki to exchange technology and co-develop specific models. The Toyota Glanza is one such example of the revamping of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. As on date, both these automakers do not have a B-SUV to rival Hyundai Creta or the Kia Seltos.

To cater to the ever-growing demand for SUVs in the market, the JV is co-developing a B-SUV that will compete with Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

The new SUV model will be based on the Vitara Brezza architecture and will have a launch sometime in 2022. The JV also plans to release a C-segment MPV sometime in 2023. These models will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi factory. However, both the companies will be selling these cards independently as two different products.

The proposed B-SUV from Maruti Suzuki will cost in the range of Rs 10 to 14 lakhs.
